Do you have a background in design/photography/art? Actually, I studied economics. Demand and supply curves, statistics and accounting -- stuff you need to know if you want an internship in finance. But I could never stop working on video projects and short films -- finance just wasn't for me. I started making cheesy videos in high school for fun. I had a mentor that taught me a lot about filmmaking back then. During college, I edited all my friends' short films and made a couple of my own. After college, I bought a film camera and taught myself how to compose shots. I took one introductory class on After Effects and just started making that my thing for the next 6 years, working at design firms, TV shows, and mobile apps. It's been fun, having a non-traditional design background and discovering my own path. It definitely feels less like a "background" and more like an adventure. |
