The best travel camera is the iPhone in your pocket. No DSLR necessary. Now, let's learn how to harness that little pocket computer of yours and unleash its full photographic power! You'll find that the tips below make taking great pics easier. And starting with a great photo is the key to a great Easy Tiger edit. We want to see your work, so make sure to use #easytigerapps when you post! | | When the sun is low in the sky, this is the magic hour. Early in the day or late afternoon is the best time to snap fully sunned photos. During this time of the day, shadows are long and the light is softer, yellower, and less harsh on your subject. If you rise early, you'll also have the chance to snap those rare shots from your favorite locations while everyone else is still sleeping. | | Have you ever taken a photo with a fantastic foreground, but an awkward background? Tree sticking out of someone's head, garbage cans, starstruck tourist? Especially when you're visiting popular travel destinations, it pays to get in close to your subject to eliminate any extra noise in the photo. Also, take a few steps left or right to place that wall or statue exactly where you want it in the background. | | If your subject is a person in the foreground, be sure to focus on them to get a clear pic. You can do this by tapping on your subject on the screen of your iPhone. This is great way to create a dynamic photo by sharply focusing on one spot and blurring out the rest. Pro tip: Play around with focusing on the background and blurring out your foreground for some really unique pics. Pro video tip: Touch and hold an area of your screen to enable locked auto focus. This will allow you to move your phone but keep the focus on a particular portion of your shot. | | To adjust brightness on your iPhone, simply touch and hold your finger on the screen. From there you can slide your finger up and down to find the perfect balance for your shot. This is a great trick for toning down harsh light during the day or brightening up a nighttime shot. | | Always keep your eyes peeled for reflections! They create some of the most engaging and unique shots. The best reflections come from bodies of water, even puddles. Mirrors, sheetmetal, and cars are a few more examples where you might find a killer reflection. | | What's the rush?! You're traveling. When you're taking pics, make sure to take your time. There's no reason you should see blurry photos in your camera roll (unless you wanted them blurry). Photography is an art and creating art takes focus. So on your next vacation, or the next time you're out snapping pics, be sure to remember that sometimes taking that extra few seconds to focus, adjust your brightness, and line up your background can make all the difference. | | | | |
