Our Top 7 iPhone Camera Tricks

TAKE BETTER PHOTOS

1. Burst mode

Burst mode allows you to take multiple photos in a short period of time. It's easy, just hold down the white shutter button instead of tapping for a single shot. This is great for action shots, animals, or young children. You can then scroll through all the shots in your gallery and pick the perfect shot! Just be sure to delete all the extras -- they'll fill up your memory fast.

2. Turn on the grid

The rule of thirds can turn your photo from basic to artistic. Turning on the iPhone grid will make it easier to nail your compositional intention. Go to "Settings", tap "Photos & Camera", tap the "Grid" slider.

3. Take HDR photos

HDR, High Dynamic Range, takes two photos with different exposure and then combines them. Have you ever notice "HDR Off" in the header of your camera? Try activating it. This setting is great for situations where the lighting isn't optimal.

4. Panorama

Open your camera and swipe left along the bottom until you reach "Pano". A yellow line and white arrow will appear in the middle of the screen. Tap the shutter button and move your phone following the guided arrow. Stay steady! When you're done, tap the shutter again.

5. Lock autofocus/exposure

If you have a busy background or multiple subjects, your iPhone might get stuck in an autofocus loop, never really focusing on what you want. To lock in the focus and exposure press and hold the screen until the yellow square flashes twice and a box appears that reads "AE/AF LOCK". Take your photo. Tap the screen again to turn off the lock.

6. Take photos with volume button or earbuds

No longer do you have to hold your phone steady while tapping the shutter on the screen. Simply use the volume buttons on the side of the phone, OR if you're wearing Apple earbuds, you can click the middle headphone button with the camera open to snap a shot.

7. Map view

Go to "Settings", "Privacy", then "Location Services" and swipe the option "Camera" to turn on Map view. Now, not only can you see where a photo was taken, but you can view all your photos in a map view!
